GFTU EXECUTIVE AT N010

The Executive Committee met Clare Moody at 10 Downing Street for discussions on current issues. The General Secretary opened by saying that it was the wish of the GFTU that this be the first meeting in a regular dialogue lasting up to the next General Election. Executive Committee members were able to explain issues of importance to members including youth service funding , music copyright , manufacturing industry , funding for educational psychologists , unemployment , pensions ,agency workers and the banking crisis.

Clare said that the Government’s number one priority was to try to keep people in jobs and to keep business’ going . She recognised that trades unions were the most trusted organisations in providing information for members and she wanted to work with the GFTU and affiliated Unions to improve communications Working tax credit was one example of assistance where effective communication could improve take -up particularly by single men over the age of 25 years.
