NUJ STRIKE IN LEEDS

Journalists in Leeds are picketing the offices of Yorkshire Post Newspapers on the second day of their strike over job cuts and quality journalism.More than 140 NUJ members are taking part in the action.

And they will continue the picket over the weekend.

Supporters are welcome to join the strikers outside the Wellington Street offices between 7am and 2pm on Saturday and 9am and 2pm on Sunday.

The journalists - from the Yorkshire Post, Yorkshire Evening Post, and Leeds Weekly News - plan another four-day strike from next Thursday.

Chris Morley, NUJ Northern Regional Organiser, speaking from the picket line this morning said: “Spirits are still high, we are continuing to receive strong support from passing motorists.

“The picketing will continue over the weekend to demonstrate the chapel’s determination to stop compulsory redundancies and protect the papers from being run into the ground.”
