NAUTILUS UNION FIGHT AGAINST PIRACY ON THE SEAS

Posted on Thursday, June 10, 2010

Dear all

I am emailing wearing my Nautilus International (representing maritime professionals) hat, to ask for your support to sign a global e-petition asking for comprehensive international action against the scourge of piracy. For many piracy is a bit of a joke and the subject of watchable films. However for merchant seafarers it is a brutal reality leading to many deaths and injuries. Over 350 seafarers are currently being held captive by pirates in Somalia - some have been hostages for many months.

The international e-petition link is below and is supported across the industry by employers, trade associations and unions. This can be signed by people of any nationality and whether a seafarer or not. Remember we all rely on the Merchant Navy, with over 90% of international trade moved by ship.

Please sign and forward this email to as many friends and colleagues as possible so we can achieve our global objective of 500,000 signatures.

Further information is on  www.nautilusint.org and also given below.

Many thanks for your help in this important matter.
