Executive Committee Meeting held 21 November 2008

MINUTES

Present:  Mr D Nicholls (President), Mr J Marino (Vice-President), Mr J Fray, Mr P Pendle, Mr P Booth, Mr P Davies, Ms R Eagleson, Mr J Mann, Mr B Marshall, Mr G Oakes, Mr T Pye, Mr J Smith, and the Secretary.

Apologies for absence were received from:  Mr J Barnwell, Ms J McKnight, and Mr C Ward.

Minutes M286.1-M286.6

M287.1        The Minutes of the Meeting held on 21 October 2008 were approved as a true record.

Minutes of Pension Trustees Meeting
M287.2        The draft minutes of the Pension Trustees meeting held on 21 October 2008 were noted.

Correspondence
M287.3        A court decision in respect of asbestos was noted.

Presidents Report
 M287.4       The President gave a brief report on the international study visit to Vietnam. It was noted that a written report would be produced. It was agreed in principal to arrange a reciprocal visit in 2009 to coincide with BCCM. It was also agreed to request affiliated unions support for the reciprocal visit.

Budget 2009
M287.5        Two draft budgets had been produced in the light of uncertainty about Head Office accommodation offer July 2009. One budget covered rent and the other purchase of a share in Moreland Street. After discussion with Mr J Warsop, Accountant, it was agreed in view of the great deal of uncertainty to note the draft budgets and to implement the new affiliation rates and salaries. It was also agreed to revisit the budgets in early 2009.

Executive Committee 2009/11
M287.6        The General Secretary had produced a paper concerning representation from Unite. Currently Unite has three representatives on the Executive Committee with one retiring at BCCM 2009. In view of the fact that a Unite Rule Book would not be agreed until May 2009 and that nominations for GFTU EC close in January 2009 it was decided for te the electoral period 2009/11 that nominations would be accepted from both TGWU and Amicus.

Any Other Business
M287.7        Mr J Mann raised the issue of a GFTU LGBT seminar in 2009. This was agreed.

M287.8           Mr G Oakes raised the matter of TULO and it was agreed to provide a report to the January 2009 Executive Committee meeting.
