Executive Committee Meeting held 17 February 2009

Central House

MINUTES

Present:  Mr D Nicholls (President), Mr J Marino (Vice-President), Ms R Eagleson, Mr J Fray, Mr J Mann, Mr B Marshall, Mr G Oakes, Mr T Pye, Mr C Ward and the Secretary.

Apologies for absence were received from:  Mr J Barnwell, Mr P Booth, Mr P Davies, Ms J McKnight Mr P Pendle and Mr J Smith.

Minutes 288.1-M288.9

M289.1   The Minutes of the Meeting held on 20 January 2009 were approved as a true record.

Matters Arising

M289.2   In respect of Minute M288.6 (Youth Seminar) a revised date of 24 June 2009 was agreed.

Research Report

M289.3   The Head of Research Services verbally supplemented a previously circulated report of the work undertaken by the Research Service.

Draft Audited Accounts 2008

 M289.4   Mr J Warsop, Accountant, gave a comprehensive report on the Federation’s accounts for 2008.  A number of questions from members were answered.  It was agreed to give further consideration to the accounts at the next meeting.

Draft Audited Educational Trust Accounts 2008

M289.5   The draft accounts were introduced by the accountant and were noted.

President’s Report

M289.6   The President reported that a delegation from Vietnam would visit the UK in May and attend Conference.  Affiliated Unions were asked to host the visit after conference.  It was agreed that the General Secretary would contact affiliates accordingly.

Property

M289.7   The General Secretary gave a comprehensive report on office accommodation following the expiry of the lease at Central House in July 2009.  It was noted that UCL, the new owners of Central House, would not be offering a tenancy on the ground floor and basement.  A number of options based upon renting and buying were considered and it was agreed to reach a final decision at the next meeting.

Biennial Report

M289.8        A draft Biennial Report was considered and it was agreed to finalise at the next meeting.

Any Other Business

M289.9  Mr J Mann reported that he had discussions with 10, Downing Street to facilitate a meeting there for the EC with a new Assistant Political Officer.  The General Secretary was directed to follow up.
