More »SUPPORT REMPLOY - SIGN THE PETITION
Once again all 54 Remploy factories are under threat of closure when current public funding ends in April 2013. Closing Remploy is the aim of conflicted axe grinders who want the funding for themselves. Another threat is that the factories are rendered less economic being only 50% loaded because public bodies have failed to support them with work as allowed under EU rules.
It would cost Treasury less to keep the factories operating fully loaded rather than putting the workers out of work on welfare. The majority of Remploy workers who lost their jobs in 2008 are still on welfare 3 years later.
The crucial campaign objective is to get the loading up to 100% and to keep these factories open.
More »EXECUTIVE PAY RISES 50%
Total earnings for senior executives in the UK’s FTSE 100 companies have seen massiove pay rises over the past year.. Whilst workers pay has slumped, chief executives received an annual jump of 43.5 per cent to £3,855,172, finance directors of 34.1 per cent to £2,001,515 and all other directors of almost two-thirds (66.5 per cent) to £2,260,033.
The statistics come from.es Data Services (IDS).Further research by the organisation found that the median pay settlement for those working in private businesses rose over the quarter to September to 2.6 per cent from 2.5 per cent during the three months to August, while private sector deals remained at zero for the same period.
RUSKIN TOP OUT
Ruskin College has just held its topping out ceremony on the new extension now being built on their Headington Hall site.
It is all change for the college with the new build, due to be completed in September 2012, Headington will become Ruskin’s new home. The move away from Oxford city center to their larger Ruskin Hall/Stoke site in Old Headington comes after the college sold its old site in Walton Street to Oxford University’s Exeter College .
NUJ say Murdoch revelations underline need to examine BBC licence deal again
Evidence that the Conservatives changed broadcasting policy at the prompting of News Corporation’s James Murdoch underlines the need to reassess the current disastrous BBC licence fee deal, the NUJ declared.
NUJ general secretary Michelle Stanistreet (photo above - nujadm) said: .“Reports in the Daily Telegraph show that the Tories abandoned a plan which would ‘top slice’ the BBC licence fee and support other public service broadcasting because James Murdoch didn’t like it. This confirms our warnings about the sinister influence wielded by the Murdochs over government. David Cameron and his colleagues have been shamelessly prioritising the commercial interests of the Murdochs over those of the British public. The shabby deal on the BBC licence fee settlement was done behind closed doors last autumn, with no democratic scrutiny or transparent discussion. It marked a watershed in the BBC’s 89-year history.

GFTU Logo
This GFTU logo was an updated version of the original Walter Crane design, which was made for the new GFTU in 1899. The updated version was produced in 1930-1 when the Federation moved into its own purpose built Central House.
This design was on a plaque on the front of the building and was brought in and restored in 2008 by a specialist metal restorer. The current chain logo was produced in the early 1970s.
